Our Business Expert Stephanie, founder Firefly Coaching gives us amazing tips in this article about the importance of connecting people to each other to grow your business. A topic close to our hearts here at Where Women Connect!

As a business owner you have a big network of all kinds of cool people.

You know people who run a myriad of different kinds of businesses.

You talk with them about what’s going on in their business and what they’re looking for.

But how often do you think about how you can connect the people in your network with each other?

It may not be too often. You can change that.

While you’re out there trying to connect with people for your business, why not take a moment and think about how you could connect others? What do they have in common? How could they help each other?

Being a connector, someone who introduces two people who could both benefit from knowing each other is so easy (and fun) to do. So why don’t we do it more often?

Well, we’re busy. And most of the time we’re thinking about our businesses and we’re not focused on other people. It’s human nature.

“The process of connection is highly proactive.” Tim Sanders

It’s also human nature to want to help others. You just have to be aware that there is an opportunity to do so. Now that you’ve been reminded, it’s time to do something about it.

And what’s really cool is that it doesn’t cost you anything (except some thought and a little time) to start connecting people today. You just need to be curious and listen.

So why do it?

Benefits of Being a Connector

* It’s rewarding for you on a personal level to be a catalyst for a potentially beneficial relationship and connect two people who otherwise may have never come into contact.

* You will be remembered as someone who cares and is willing to give without expecting something in return (that’s right, you don’t do it because you expecting anything – you may receive something back but that’s not why you do it).

* Being an active connector keeps you top of mind with potential clients and people who can refer you.

Ideas for Connecting People

– If you’re at a networking event or conference and you’re talking with someone look around the room and see if there’s someone there the person should meet and introduce them.

– If you’re communicating with someone (on the phone, via e-mail, or on a social networking site) think about who would be an interesting connection for that person and send an e-mail introducing them.

– If you want to become a turbo connector, proactively scour through your database of contacts and find a juicy match and make the introduction.

The time is now. Decide that you are going to become an accomplished connector. Stay alert and always be on the lookout for situations where you can make a match.

Trust me, you’ll be glad you did. It feels good and good things will happen for your business.
